Sagittarius is the ninth sign of the zodiac, from about November 22 to December 21, at the end of fall. It is a mutable fire sign ruled by Jupiter, the largest planet in the solar system, which tradition associates with growth, confidence, study and travel. Its symbol is an archer, often drawn as a centaur, half human and half horse, aiming far.
Astrology describes Sagittarius as optimistic, frank, curious about the world and drawn to big questions, other cultures and freedom of movement. It likes to learn, and to pass on what it has understood. The expected flip side: promising more than it can deliver, getting bored quickly, and telling a truth without weighing its effect. Its opposite sign, Gemini, sticks to everyday details while Sagittarius watches the horizon. The days keep getting shorter throughout its season, until the December solstice closes it.
