Capricorn is the tenth sign of the zodiac. The Sun enters it at the December solstice, around December 22, and leaves around January 19, so it is the first sign of winter in the Northern Hemisphere. It is a cardinal earth sign ruled by Saturn, which tradition links with time, structure, responsibility and long efforts. Its symbol is the sea-goat, a goat with a fish’s tail that can climb the mountain and dive into the sea.
Astrology credits Capricorn with ambition, patience, a sense of responsibility, stamina and a dry sense of humor. It builds step by step and aims for the long term. The classic pitfalls: being hard on itself, finding it difficult to rest, and a reserve that hides its feelings. Its opposite sign, Cancer, is a reminder of home and tenderness. After the winter solstice, the days grow a few minutes longer each day: slow but steady progress, a picture often linked to this sign.
